Sahil, now a thirteen year old, was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy during infanthood. He lives with his parents and younger sister in the Patel Nagar area of West Delhi. Sahil’s mother is the sole bread winner of the house. Although Sahil’s father stays with him at home, there hasn’t been much help from his side.
Sahil’s mother was his only connection to the outer world. However, her job as a housemaid did not allow her to spend too much time with Sahil. This had restricted him to bed for the most part of his life. Due to financial constraints, Sahil’s family could not afford proper medical treatment for him. Having his own wheelchair seemed like a far-fetched dream for Sahil.
In 2016, Sahil’s mother heard about “Wheels for Life” initiative that has a very easy procedure of getting a wheelchair. She learnt that by submitting very basic details like name, age, type of disability and a picture of the benefactor, one can get a wheelchair.
After applying on wheelsforlife.in, Sahil got the first wheelchair of his life and he is loving his newfound freedom. This wheelchair has given Sahil the liberty to move around freely without anyone’s assistance.
“Sahil doesn’t need me to go for tuitions or even small things like going to the park near our house”, said his mother, with sense of relief and contentment on her face.
